PostSubject: Frictional Games   Mon Dec 05, 2011 11:20 am

So my group of irl friends are all into this game called Amnesia: The Dark Descent (created by Frictional Games). I got it for my birthday this year, and even though I'm actually far too scared to play it myself, the Nerdherd's gotten a lot of good fun out of it.

I'll be honest?
I can hardly stand watching my friends play it any more.

It doesn't seem all that scary, until you actually play it.

For those of you who haven't heard of it, it's a game about a guy named Daniel who drinks an amnesia potion and has to make his way to deepest part of a place called Castle Brenenburgh and kill a guy named Alexander. On your way down, you encounter horrible monsters that will try to kill you.
But the thing is?
You can't fight back, you can only hide.

Also, not only do you lose health, but you also lose sanity, and the less amount of sanity you have, the harder the controls become.

SO HOW ABOUT YOU GUYS?
Have you heard of it, aside from now? Love it? Hate it? Interested? Watched someone's Let's Play videos on it? Played it yourself?
Heard about/played/watched any other games by Frictional Games, such as Penumbra or Justine?

That sounds like it would be really interesting to play! ....Although I hate all things scary because I tend to frighten easily... As in, I can't watch I Am Legend after dark or by myself > 3<;;

But it seems like a scenario with an average person, instead of for some reason knowing how to wield a sword/gun/magic/whatever lol

Hogoodness, you probably wouldn't be able to handle it very well, then. D:
It's a really, really good game, though.

Pretty much! Very Happy
I guess that's one of the reasons why I like it so much... even though the concept truly terrifies me. [shudder] I would not want to be Daniel.

I've heard of it and seen gameplay, it looks freaky! ._.
But I'm sure I'd be fine. The bit that gets me is not being able to fight back..

Yeah, not being able to fight back changes everything! I'd probably be able to handle the monsters a lot better if I could kill them. ... Granted, the grunt still has a horrifying face... and the Brute a horrifying... moo-thing.... D:>

Yeah, it's bottom jaw is all stretched out and it's like.. blurg.
BUT, try playing Silent Hill for more fright.
But hey, try playing Resident Evil 4 and being stuck in a sewer with two Iron Maidens, and only a few rounds of a sniper..

Ooooooh boy, don't get me started on Amnesia. Now, I'm a person who likes to get scared. I go and watch all the creepy movies, of every kind and flavor. The problem is....I get scared very easily. Soooo playing Amnesia by myself (in a dark room with headphones, none the less) is a very harrowing and heart stopping experience. XD

I've been looking to get my hands on Penumbra, but then Oblivion went on sale and my money went towards that. > o>

I gotta say though, Amnesia ranks right up there with Fatal Frame as the scariest games I ever played.

Resident Evil....maybe bits of 2, but only because of the camera angles. Silent Hill....when you have friends freaking you out every time you play....yes.

Blah.. it's probably because you know the kind of stuff in Amnesia more likely exists.. that's the freaky part.

Pfff
You wouldn't have anything to worry about unless you got your hands on The Orb or something though, haha

No, but I mean the deformities are realistic, and the shadow could be some form of algae or moss that's poisonous, and the castle could be real.

Oh goooosh Amnesia is just the greatest. I have to pause, save, quit, and restart it every so often though because I'm paranoid I'll die. :"0
